Roy Rodgers
Roy L.Rodgers was born in September 1895. He was the son of AlexanderRodgers and Mary E.(-?-). Roy was a very talented musician and entertainer in his day. He could play any instrument he picked up! He would sing and do puppet shows and make people laugh, but he never quite made it to the big time. Family legend has it that Leonard Slye came along and started using the name 'Roy Rodgers' as his stage name, thereby stealing our Roy's name. It is said that Roy sued Mr. Slye. Whether the case went to court or was settled out of court is unknown, but Leonard Slye ended up paying Roy $1000. Then he simply dropped the letter 'D' from the name 'Rodgers' and went on to become the rich and famous cowpoke entertainer 'Roy Rogers'. Our Roy was known to have spent the last few years of his life in a rest-home in Oklahoma where he played music and entertained the old folks and hospital staff regularly.1 Roy L. Rodgers died between 1970 and 1979 in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
