Theodore Isbell
Theodore Isbell was born on 27 October 1905 in Mangum, Greer Co., Oklahoma.1 He was the son of George Washington Isbell and Georgia Eliza Walker. Theodore Isbell also went by the name of Ted.2 He had no middle name.3 He married Effie Jane Webb, daughter of Theodore Wesley Webb and Julia Ann Johnson, on 31 August 1934 in Wellington, Collingsworth Co., Texas.4 Theodore Isbell lived in Oildale, Kern Co., California.4 He was a mechanic for Berchtold Farming Equipment in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California.4 Ted loved to play his musical instruments, including the piano and violin. According to his wife Effie, he could play just about any instrument he picked up. He also enjoyed making friends with the hummingbirds that would come to feed from the feeder he hung outside the living room window in Oildale, California. There was a time (circa 1980) when Ted rescued an injured hummingbird and nursed it back to health. He proudly bragged to his grandson Randy that when he finally released the bird outside, it stayed very close to him, almost landing on his shoulder a few times. Another memory of Ted was his little tool shed in the backyard. He was so proud of his idea to nail jar lids to the ceiling so that he could reach up and unscrew the jars of nuts and bolts when he needed some. This helped keep his workbench and shelves tidy and he enjoyed showing off this cleverness with an ear-to-ear grin. He also enjoyed tending to his orange trees and gardens in the backyard, and seemed to have quite a green thumb. This was probably just farming on a small scale to him.2 He worked his last few years (before his retirement) for his son Donnie at his Standard Station in Lamont, Kern Co., California.4 He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease at some point in his old age.3 He died on 16 May 1988 in Beverly Manor Convalescent Hospital, Bakersfield, Kern Co., California, at age 82.4 He died from cardiac arrest caused by Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease.5 He was buried on 18 May 1988 in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery, Bakersfield, Kern Co., California.2
